We are proud to share that The Burgess Hill Academy’s Year 7 and 8 students have raised over £2400 for ‘School in a Bag’, accumulating to a total of 120 bags for children around the world.
Over the last couple of years The Burgess Hill Academy have been running fundraising events for the charity. The CEO, Luke Simon started the charity in memory of his brother and his mission is for each and every schoolbag to transform the way in which children can be taught and therefore learn. For every £20 raised, the charity packs a school bag full of school equipment and sends it off to support a child around the world.
Over 4 weeks of designated tutor time and promotion of the charity, students were supported with time to create groups and brainstorm their activities to complete either in school or the community. Each group were targeted to contribute at least one bag to the project.
Some of the fundraising activities included: car washing, cake sales, a sponsored silence, swimathon, penalty shootouts, and FIFA computer football competitions. At the end of the fundraiser, students were able to pack the school bags themselves alongside Luke Simon and were able to track them on the School in a Bag website to their final destinations – drawing their activity to the best possible close.
Year 7 and 8 Standards Leader, Tim Pownceby said, “it was a huge team effort by tutors, students and parents and I couldn't be more delighted with the efforts put in and the amount raised”.
Vice Principal, Lizi Sparasci was also thrilled with the Academy’s achievements, “We are so proud of the kindness, generosity and resourcefulness shown by our students in their fundraising endeavours. The incredible effort that they put into supporting School in a Bag really embodies the community spirit and values of The Burgess Hill Academy. We are thrilled to be able to support such a worthwhile charity that enables all children to access education, something which we see the power of every day”.
We are delighted to see The Burgess Hill Academy fundraising for such an impactful charity. It is fantastic to see our students taking part to make a difference to the lives of children around the world. Your efforts are truly admirable, well done!
