Free entitlement for 2, 3 and 4 year olds

Parents and carers are responsible for applying for the 2 year old Free Entitlement. If eligible, you will receive a letter with a unique reference number from the Family Information Service. This will need to be given to the nursery before your child starts, in order for us to access your child’s funding, from the term after their second birthday. For further information or to apply for the 2 year old Free Entitlement, please go to

All parents and carers of three and four year old children are entitled to a maximum of 15 hours government funding per week for 38 weeks of the year. This is known as the 3 and 4 year old Universal Free Entitlement and is automatically applied for by the nursery when your child becomes eligible, the term after their third birthday.

We understand that each family has different work patterns and childcare requirements, therefore, we aim to be as flexible as possible. We do not require parents and carers to access the full 15 hours of the 2 year old Free Entitlement or 3 and 4 year old Universal Free Entitlement. If you require more than 15 hours and you are not entitled to the Extended Free Entitlement, then fees will be due at our hourly rate of £6.00. For further details please contact the nursery.

Extended free entitlement for working parents of 3 and 4 year olds

Since September 2017 Desmond Anderson Nursery has been offering the 3 and 4 year old Extended Free Entitlement. Parents and carers are responsible for applying for this additional 15 hours funding. To find out if you are eligible for the Extended Free Entitlement, please go to

If you are eligible, you will need to provide the nursery with your unique reference number the term before your child is due to start at the nursery. This will give us time to validate the code before confirming your child’s extended funding and offering sessions. Once in receipt of the Extended Free Entitlement, you must sign in to your account every 3 months to reconfirm your details, otherwise your 30 hour code will expire.

We do not require you to access the full 15 hours Extended Free Entitlement. However, if you require more than 30 hours, fees will be due at our hourly rate of £6.00. For further details please contact the nursery.

Nursery fees

If your child is not eligible for the Free Entitlement or you choose to take up extra hours/sessions, then the nursery’s hourly/sessional rate will apply.

£6.00 per hour or
£18.00 – £42.00 per session, depending on the length of the session.
