Welcome to Desmond Anderson Nursery

Desmond Anderson Nursery, along with the reception classes, makes up the Early Years Foundation Stage at Desmond Anderson Primary Academy.

Staff at the nursery aim to make your child’s move from home to nursery as easy as possible, working in partnership with you to continue building and developing the skills your child has gained whilst in your care.

Every child is unique, with their own individual needs, strengths and interests, developing and learning in different ways, at their own pace. Your child’s contributions will be respected, valued and included in their further learning, building their confidence and self-esteem. We will also encourage positive attitudes towards themselves, others, the local community and their environment.

We welcome children from the term in which they turn 3 years of age as a 'Rising 3', catering for a maximum of 24 children in any one session. We offer morning, afternoon or all-day sessions during term time, either through the Free Entitlement or privately, paying our current sessional rate.

About us

Our nursery is bright and spacious. We have free flow access to a large, fully enclosed garden area with climbing equipment and a range of varied outdoor activities including a mud kitchen, climbing frame, water wall and Wendy house. We provide a fun and stimulating learning environment both indoors and outdoors encompassing all 7 areas of learning and development.

Before your child starts at our nursery, we offer a home visit which provides a wonderful opportunity to meet your child in their home and enables us to familiarise ourselves with your child and family. It also provides an opportunity to discuss your child's needs, interests, dislikes and any allergies or medical information. This will be dependent on the current Covid restrictions.

At this time, settling in sessions are agreed and tailored to each individual child. Parents and families are made to feel welcome and valued within the setting, recognising that a child's first educator is their parent or carer. 

As the nursery is a part of Desmond Anderson Primary Academy, we are able to utilise their facilities, such as: the school hall for various activities; library; MUGA (multi-use games area); conservation area with its pond and wildlife; the sensory garden, to learn more about plants, wildlife and habitats; the Solar Dome, which is used to grow plants and vegetables; the outside classroom; and the outside stage. In addition to their amazing resources, there are opportunities within the school to participate in sports days, Christmas performances and sessions where we join Reception for reading afternoons.

Each child has an online journal and an achievement book where their progress is recorded, and all their beautiful artwork can be added to celebrate their time at Desmond Anderson Nursery.
