Writing:

This week we have been learning about Space. We have learnt the order of the planets and we are now writing facts about the moon. The children are really excited about the topic and we are enjoying teaching it.

P.E. 

PE days are on Tuesday and Wednesday. Wednesday is outside and the weather seems to be turning colder now, please make sure your children have long trousers for this. Please make sure PE kits are brought into school otherwise children will not be allowed to do PE. Earrings need to be removed on these days. 

 Harvest:

 

We are going to the church on Wednesday afternoon for the Harvest festival.

 

Don't forget - Friday is our Night Time Experience please be back at school at 5pm sharp.

Writing:

We are continuing with our mission about nocturnal animals, we have created nocturnal collages and written descriptive sentences about them. We are also going to be looking at non-fiction reports and identify the key features of these.

See if you can find any non-fiction reports about other nocturnal animals. 

 

Maths

This week we are focusing on comparing numbers using the inequality signs. We are also using the language 'greater than', 'fewer than' and 'equal to'

We are practicing our Harvest performance for the church, if your child has lines, please help them learn them. Remember that it is only the parents who can volunteer to help by taking children to church, who can stay for the performance.

 Welcome to  Year 1!

The children are settling in really well to their new classrooms and routine, we are all very proud of them.:


Writing:


We have begun our topic which is The Wonderful Night time, we have been looking at nocturnal animals and their senses. The children are helping in our first mission of the year about nocturnal animals, they will be looking at joining their sentences with 'and' and remembering to use a full stop and capital letter.


Home learning opportunities 


Ask your child to write a sentence about what they know about nocturnal animals.


Maths: 


We have been looking at finding one more and less than a number and saying which number is bigger.

Find one more or less than items around the home.

We are collecting 4 pt milk bottles for a project we are doing, if you have any of these, please could you wash them out and bring them into us before half term.

Writing:

We are continuing with our 'Message in a bottle' mission with Max and Ant. We are going to be looking at writing our own questions and creating our very own message in a bottle.

Maths

We will be expanding our knowledge of time this week to looking at the clock faces and making different numbers of o'clock.

P.E. 

PE days are on Tuesday and Wednesday. Due to the sunny weather and upcoming sports day, Tuesday PE sessions now take place on the field, Wednesday is also as normal with it being outside. Please make sure PE kits are brought into school otherwise children will not be allowed to do PE. Can you make sure children are coming in with shorts and not joggers as it is too hot outside to have children run about in such thick clothing.

So we have a very fun and busy week planned ahead! Here is a reminder of what is to come this week:

On Wednesday morning we have the new step up day with our new teachers, which means we will meeting the new teachers as well as saying a temporary bye to us!

On Thursday morning we have a special visit from a theatre company performing The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe.

On Friday (Weather depending) we have Sports Day in the morning. 

 

Also, as a reminder, can you make sure you have booked an appointment to meet with Mr James and Mrs Bates on either Tuesday or Wednesday as these are our final reporting opportunity to parents for the year.

Literacy:
We will be continuing with our mission 'Message in a bottle' where children will be looking at making leaflets and information displays over the week. Children will also be retelling the adventure the characters have had so far during their Big Write Mission on Wednesday.

Talk homework will be given out at the beginning of the week. Could you discuss this with your children?

  

Maths:

This week in maths we will begin to develop children's knowledge of time. We will be looking at days of the week as well as discussing language of positioning.

Topic

We are continuing to look at our new story of Mr Underbed. We will be looking at the different emotions from each of the characters and trying to figure out why they think this way from various points of view.

Literacy:
This week we will be looking at our new and last mission of this year called Message in a bottle. Children will be looking at the seaside and creating postcards and diary entries for our new characters Ant and Max.

Home learning opportunities: 

Can your child retell the story they have read with you this week and answer questions about what happened in the book and what could happen next?

  

Maths:

We will be continuing to look at money recognition of notes and coins. We will also be looking at figuring out how to make a certain amount with coins as well as giving change.

Can your child give the correct change for an object you have 'bought' from them?

 
Topic

Literacy:
This week we are finishing our 'A Wolf's Tale' mission where the wolf can finally tell his side of the story with Little Red Riding Hood. Thankfully Suzy Scoop has offered to put it in her newspaper. The children have managed to use this super brain power to remember their story to give to Suzy Scoop.

Maths:

In maths this week, we have been beginning to look at money and recognising the different coins and notes.

Topic

We are beginning to look at a new story of Mr Underbed and who the characters might be. So far we have discovered that the monster is underneath the bed, but we are still figuring out why he is under there.

Phonics screening test:

Firstly, a massive thank you for the incredible effort of ensuring every child is in this week and on time as well. The children have done an amazing job and through well deserving of their reward on Friday afternoon with films and iPads. Results will be relayed back to parents on parents evening. Make sure children still read to increase their progress, but children have fully done themselves proud. Well done to them all.

Literacy:

This week we have looked at writing our big mission for Finley retelling the story of Little Red Riding Hood. However, there is a plot twist! We have heard it was all unintentional! The wolf was told different to do different things. What will happen next?


Home learning opportunities:

Discuss the different possibilities of what has happened with the wolf. What could happen next? What else could have happened before that?

 

Maths:

In maths this week, we have been looking at the different position and directional language to describe objects and their locations.

 

Home learning opportunities:

 Can your child help you to describe different objects and their locations using different prepositions (on/off, under/above, next to/beside) and using different math language such as left and right?


Topic:

We finished looking at our topic book 'Wild' where we found out what new animals the little girl encountered as well as exploring her emotions and feelings to different locations.
