Writing:

 This week, we are finishing our story that we have been reading, Mr Underbed. We are finishing it off by writing our own stories based on the text and we are going to be creating our own books. Hopefully by the end of the week we might have finished books for a display.

Discuss your child's story they have created with them.

 

Maths

We are focusing on addition this week, particularly looking at knowing our number bonds. We will start off by confirming we know our number bonds to 10 before moving onto knowing our number bonds to 20.

Science:

This week we are still working on materials, we are sorting, grouping and classifying them.

Look for items around the house and discuss their properties.

 

P.E. 

PE days are on Tuesday and Wednesday. Wednesday is outside and the weather seems to be turning colder now, please make sure your children have long trousers for this as we will be doing P.E outside unless it is raining. Please make sure PE kits are brought into school otherwise children will not be allowed to do PE. Earrings need to be removed on these days.

 Don't forget!

This Thursday we are having our movie and popcorn night. The children will need to arrive back at school at 4:15 and be collected again at 6:15. If you have not yet signed and returned your slip can you please do this ASAP. It is vital we have information on who is going to be collecting your child. The school will be locked up straight after so please be prompt to collect your child. They are welcome to come back in pyjamas and dressing-gowns.

Writing:

We are all very excited to begin our new topic: Little Monsters! We are going to be reading and working on the book Mr Underbed by Chris Riddell.

The children are already very excited about this, so far we have had a package delivered to us, which contained the book. We are exploring the illustrations and language together this week. We will also be looking at writing letters.

 

Home learning opportunities 

Discuss when and why people send letters to others. Have they ever written a letter?

 

Maths

This week we are learning all about place value. We are looking sequencing numbers, finding more than and less than and solving word problems.

Count lots of different items in the home and ask your child questions about finding more and less than.

 

Science:

 We are learning about Materials and their properties for the next few weeks.  The children will be using adjectives to describe their properties and investigating the best type of material to use for different things.

Discuss what things are made from and why that is a good choice. For example: Would it be a good idea to make lego out of metal? Why not?

We have just finished one of our missions and before beginning another we are going to be focusing on capital letters and full stops. We are not always using these as we should so we are going to be revising them and hopefully this will improve our writing.

This week we are learning all about shape. We are looking at 3D shapes and identifying the properties of them.

This week we have begun our new mission which the children are really excited about. We are focusing on Antarctica, where it is in the world, what the weather is like there and what lives there.

We are continuing with our mission about nocturnal animals, we have created nocturnal collages and written descriptive sentences about them. We are also going to be looking at non-fiction reports and identify the key features of these.

This week we are focusing on comparing numbers using the inequality signs. We are also using the language 'greater than', 'fewer than' and 'equal to'

We are practicing our Harvest performance for the church, if your child has lines, please help them learn them. Remember that it is only the parents who can volunteer to help by taking children to church, who can stay for the performance.

We have begun our topic which is The Wonderful Night time, we have been looking at nocturnal animals and their senses. The children are helping in our first mission of the year about nocturnal animals, they will be looking at joining their sentences with 'and' and remembering to use a full stop and capital letter.

We are continuing with our 'Message in a bottle' mission with Max and Ant. We are going to be looking at writing our own questions and creating our very own message in a bottle.

Can your child write questions about the book they are reading before they have opened the book itself? 

 

Maths:

We will be expanding our knowledge of time this week to looking at the clock faces and making different numbers of o'clock.

P.E. 

PE days are on Tuesday and Wednesday. Due to the sunny weather and upcoming sports day, Tuesday PE sessions now take place on the field, Wednesday is also as normal with it being outside. Please make sure PE kits are brought into school otherwise children will not be allowed to do PE. Can you make sure children are coming in with shorts and not joggers as it is too hot outside to have children run about in such thick clothing.

So we have a very fun and busy week planned ahead! Here is a reminder of what is to come this week:

On Wednesday morning we have the new step up day with our new teachers, which means we will meeting the new teachers as well as saying a temporary bye to us!

On Thursday morning we have a special visit from a theatre company performing The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe.

On Friday (Weather depending) we have Sports Day in the morning.

 

Also, as a reminder, can you make sure you have booked an appointment to meet with Mr James and Mrs Bates on either Tuesday or Wednesday as these are our final reporting opportunity to parents for the year.
